Knox County is a cyclist’s dream—rolling countryside, scenic bridges, and miles of smooth trail winding through historic small towns. Whether you’re tackling a section of the Ohio to Erie Trail or spending a weekend exploring local paths, Mount Vernon, Ohio is one of the most convenient—and charming—places to pause your ride.

The Ohio to Erie Trail: A Ride Through the Heart of Ohio

Stretching more than 326 miles from Cincinnati to Cleveland, the Ohio to Erie Trail connects urban centers, farmland, and forests through one of the most scenic cross-state routes in the Midwest. As riders make their way through the heart of Ohio, Mount Vernon offers a perfect rest point almost exactly midway along the journey.

The trail runs directly through downtown Mount Vernon—just about a mile from The Mount Vernon Inn—making it an easy detour for an overnight stay or a refreshing break. Many cyclists plan their trip so they can enjoy our welcoming gardens, comfortable rooms, and locally inspired hospitality before continuing north or south the next day.

Bike-Friendly Comforts at The Mount Vernon Inn

We love welcoming cyclists and have designed several convenient bike storage options:

  • Lock your bike to the sturdy columns right outside your room for quick access.
  • Bring it safely inside your room if you prefer to keep it close.
  • Or, if you’d rather store it securely, we’ll happily lock it in our maintenance room for peace of mind.

We know your ride doesn’t end when you park your bike—so we make sure you have everything you need to relax and recharge.

Relax, Refresh, and Refuel

After a long day on the trail, guests enjoy unwinding with a complimentary glass of wine or a local beer in the evening. Our garden courtyard, strung with twinkling lights, is the perfect place to share stories from the day’s ride.

And in the morning? You’ll start strong with our cooked-to-order breakfast, featuring fresh ingredients and warm hospitality that have made The Mount Vernon Inn a favorite among travelers of all kinds.
